Fabulous February
The month of February is the shortest month of the year, often mixed with cloudy, windy, or rainy weather, early sunsets, and cold temperatures. Who doesn’t love a cup of hot chocolate, coffee, or special tea and a cozy blanket nearby for those chilly mornings? In Southern California, thankfully we are often surprised with a few days in the 70’s when the sun’s warmth is streaming in the window or shining on your back as you take a walk as those clear blue skies highlight the snow-covered mountains around our valleys. Yet there is more to February than meets the eye, and a variety of opportunities to celebrate and enjoy fun with family or friends.
February is chocked full of special days that give you an opportunity to laugh and engage with people around you of all ages. When February comes to mind, the first thought is often of Valentine’s Day. Most of us remember receiving a bouquet of flowers, chocolate candy, munching on conversation hearts, or exchanging valentines at school in a paper mâché valentine box. However; there are some other highlights and special days during the month of February that deserve honorable mention. I will touch on just a few of them. The first week of February includes such things as National Dark Chocolate Day, National Tater Tot Day, National Home-Made Soup Day, Ice Cream for Breakfast Day, and National Fettuccini Alfredo Day.
Not to be outdone, the second week brings us a flurry of National Days – Pizza Day, Cut the Cord Day, Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk Day, Clean Out Your Computer Day, and one of my favorites, Peppermint Patty Day. If you run out of things to celebrate the third week, try Do a Grouch a Favor Day, Random Acts of Kindness Day, Sticky Bun Day, or Cherry Pie Day. Finally, the fourth week (if you are not worn out from all of this fun) brings us some yummy National Days – Chili Day, Clam Chowder Day, Strawberry Day, with a happy chaser of Tell a Fairy Tale Day, Public Sleeping Day, and Tooth Fairy Day.
Ready for March yet? What I gather from all of this is there are many reasons to celebrate with those we love. Choose a few of these National Days and have fun celebrating - make a treat…send a card…show up with a pizza or tater tots, or call a friend or loved one (especially the seniors in your life) to wish them a special day and cheer them up with some obscure National Day Remembrance that will make them laugh! Great Life Senior Care is always there – every day - to assist your loved one, helping them stay in their homes, bringing safety and comfort, and encouraging them to enjoy the blessings of life – our family caring for yours. Enjoy a wonderful February!
